I'm in love

tivo shotPreface:
As you all know I recently upgraded to the TiVo Series 2. I have nothing but good things to say about the new TiVo, except that the remote absolutely sucks. My TiVo series 1 was a Sony, and the remote was perfectly designed for absolute TiVo pleasure, but the new remote puts all the right buttons in all the wrong spots. (There should be some red flags when I saw that the remote is made in Korea while the box is made in Mexico.)

Problem:
On the new peanut remote the TiVo button is at the top of the remote, while the transport buttons are in the middle. The clear and enter buttons could not be any more inaccessible, way down at the bottom of the remote. I found myself always using two hands to surf the TiVo, and constantly needing to look down trying to find buttons.

Solution:
Enters the One for All URC-6131 6 Device PVR Universal Remote (URC 6131800). Not only does this guy put the buttons where I want them, cost only $17.95, come with free shipping, but it also handles 6 devices. That's right, all of the other remotes have had their batteries removed and have found a new home in the drawer. I can now control my DVD, VCR, TV, AMP, TiVo, and if I ever get a dish (or required to use one of those awful cable boxes) I can control it too.

Features:
The remote also has some pretty nice features I was missing since the Sony. I can now go to the "Now Playing" screen with one button access, and I can delete programs with a single button (items that are unfortunately left out of the standard peanut remote). In addition, I have programmed a macro to turn on the TV and AMP by holding down the power button for two seconds, and PIP works without the TV remote.

Conclusion:
It's hard to believe that someone could be in love with a remote, but when something as slender and beautiful as this walks by, you just can't help it.

And the nice thing too is it doesn't talk back! What more could you want.

does this control your receiver so that you can change the volume thru it and not thru the t.v.? if so, that may induce me to get some speakers and a cheap receiver for the living room.

In fact, it does exactly what you describe. There is a "Global Volume Lock" so that my amp's volume adjusts no matter what component is selected on the remote.
